I’ve been painting about the everydayness of life for more than 30 years and I’m never bored by it. Humanity appears in a million hues. When you can look at me and see yourself The Charleston Church Shootings will cease, the skin bleaching with clorox by black people in Jamaica and elsewhere, will cease. When the white world believes there is a beauty equal to their own, a new day will be born for all people. My narrative is a simple one. I don’t care about what’s happening on the cutting edge of the art world. I want to “uplift, transform and inspire” everyday people. And to all who look like me. See the mirror I hold up for you to see yourselves and at last, to know you are already good enough.
This is my tribute to the families mourning the church murders in Charleston. We must live in ways that make this loss of life worth the price. It isn’t enough to feel bad, we must do better.
I can’t think of anything greater than the feeling that your life’s work can make a difference and the joy of sitting down to work with that being the driving force. I’m living and working with that intention.
My Ganpa always told me to find the sweet spot in life. that’s the place where work and play fuse and you’re never sure which you are doing. That’s what happened this week end as I gathered source material for my next paintings,
This is an explanation of what encaustic paint is and how I am using it to create your painting. Nearly all encaustic (wax) paintings are executed on wood panels. As wax is impervious to moisture and damp, many that are more than 2 thousand years old have survived in excellent condition. lol saw the typo on the video too late….. oh well. Not to worry.
Conversation with the artist Sharon Wilson and Shirley Kelly examining the effect one painting had on her at a pivotal moment in her life
I like to feel the build up of wax when I paint.Portraits can be challenging period, wax used heavily especially on small portraits can be even more difficult, but I’m learning to trust the wax and n to some degree allow it to do what wax naturally wants to do.
